Fandom / Series: Cowboys and Aliens
From When: Jake comes from just before he gets his memory back completely. He remembers his name, but he doesn't remember anything else-just before their assault on the alien ship.
Function: Jake-given his profession, would be a good scout and or head of scouts. Being a thief by trade he knows the lay of the land and also how to lead a team and a unit.
Preferred Side: Civilian. He makes his living outside of the law. While he does not have a problem with authority, he makes an effort to avoid it. His belief is that a man gets what he earns-or sometimes takes.
Abilities / Powers: Jake is an American Male born in the 1870s. He's a ranch hand/cowboy by trade who is familiar with farming, animal handling, and manual/physical labor. He is also a criminal however, so he knows how to steal and plan operations. Given that most operations were planned from a great distance away, he can approach an enemy unseen and coordinate an attack with groups of five or six. He is familiar with 1800s explosives as well, but has very good hand-to-hand combat skills as well.
His biggest strength is an alien wrist gun. It acts on a mental trigger and has quite a bit of stopping power. In canon, this gun can shoot down an alien space craft of small size. It's the equivalent of a star trek phaser.
Obviously, willing to discuss these power limitations with the mods. It's assumed that since most of the aliens have them then they are personal side arms.
Personality: Jake is an outcast and an outlaw by choice. He's a free spirit who knows how to take care of himself and those he cares about. Raised in a time when it was every man for himself, he is able to care about others-but isn't afraid to compromise in relation to his own needs and wants. Consequently, he has a somewhat skewed sense of justice, which is what makes him a criminal. It's a very dog eat dog world and he knows it and he doesn't shy away from it.
Deep down however, Jake is a good man. He doesn't give extensively or make pious noises, but he trusts and knows that there are people you are supposed to protect and help. He's just a big believer in freedom and the right he has to choose who he wants to help and save. In a way, he embodies the American sense of freedom. A desire not to be fenced in and a desire for freedom. He's like the common American Mustang, comfortable in it's surroundings but dangerous when provoked and unwilling to be tamed.
In dangerous situations, Jake is just as precise as a well aimed horse's kick. When he senses a threat he'll hone in on it and kick til the threat is gone.
